The Suits Season 3 premiere kicked off last night with fans on the edge of their seats waiting impatiently to see what would come of the unsurprisingly lustful tryst between Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) and Rachel Zane (Meghan Markie) Season 2 closed with. Come 10 p.m., avid watchers of Aaron Korsh's American legal drama flipped to USA Network to tune into what can best be described as one highly dysfunctional family reunion, and boy was it everything we could hope for and much, much more.
Suits Season 3 Premiere
The Season 3 premiere episode called "The Arrangement" opens with a scene from the preview that we just couldn't believe would actually happen. Mike wakes up after having a nightmare about Rachel exposing his secret to the entire firm, confirming his fear that not a single person would accept him for who he really is: a fake, a poser, a liar. This takes place two days after Mike and Rachel finally did the dirty in an epic file room hookup once Mike told Rachel that he never went to Harvard. We find the lovebirds trying to come to terms with what their new relationship entails when Rachel finally suggests that Mike should just quit, stop trying to be someone he's not, and just suck face with her all day long. Romantic, eh?
Co-founder and managing partner of the newly named Pearson Darby firm, Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres), however, has other plans for the talented associate. When Mike approaches her to quit, she gives him a new office, rewarding him for a job well done after standing up to Hardman and remaining loyal to her rather than Harvey.
Rachel and Mike get into it when she sees his new digs at the firm, admiring Mike's diploma hanging on the wall wreaking of lies. She leaves and then it's Harvey next that Mike tries to make good with. All hope for that bromance to once again flourish seems to be lost as Harvey refuses to forgive the man whom he trusted most and led only to disappointment.

Mike does try to win over Harvey once again by helping out with the Ava Hessington case, but fails to acquire the good faith of the boss turned brother he never had. Their relationship is far from being repaired, no thanks to Harvey's legal secretary Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty). Donna, normally willing to give Mike a hand, refuses to help, making a point of conveying to Mike that she's feels just as betrayed as Harvey.
Now without his best friend, Mike returns back to Rachel to try to stir up their romance once again. This time he succeeds, spilling his whole story to the woman he undoubtedly loves, which she shows her appreciation for with some time in bed.
Full of confidence, Mike finally decides to stand up to Jessica by threatening her with evidence that she knew about his falsified degree from Harvard. He solidifies his safety by telling her that if she says anything about his educational background, she will be guilty of involvement as well. Taking it even a step further, Mike also gives back his office to prove to Harvey that he's committed to resurrecting their friendship and partnership.
Harvey and Jessica act like cats and dogs throughout the whole Season 3 premiere, as expected. Harvey wages war against the woman he now resents, but still can't seem to leave. He makes a deal with Darby at the beginning of the premiere that if he wins Ava's case, he wants out of his non-compete and to be able to quit. But by the end of the episode, Harvey changes his mind and decides to strike a new deal with Darby. This time he asks to be made managing partner if he wins, a plan that he knows will undermine Jessica's power.
Then there was Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman). Good ol' funny Louis whose to and fro with Donna was definitely missed. He admits his love for "Uniball" pens, repeating that phrase one time too many, and manages to rub some ink on his upper lip making him look like Hitler thanks to Donna's sneaky ways. Bravo, Donna, you sure know how to poke fun at a man whilst sustaining one hell of a poker face.
The premiere was definitely a home run when it came to lingering cliffhangers from Season 2. All of the relationship questions were pretty much answered. Well, sort of in the case of Scotty and Harvey. That duo still has a little work to do. The tumultuous, ultra competitive relationship between Louis and Nigel, on the other hand, is still one that we will likely continue to be confused about for the duration of the entire season. I will admit that I missed the former Harvard fling with Sheila. The female equivalent of Louis needs to return. It was too good.
As for the humorous interludes, they were spot on. Harvey was certainly more cautious and heated in this episode, but Donna's prank on Louis and the cutesy sexual innuendos provided by Mike and Rachel more than made up for the hard attitude he played up in the season premiere.
Overall, the premiere was pretty much everything I ever dreamed of, but with a little more drama than expected. We all knew Rachel would never tell a soul about Mike's lack of a Harvard degree (except maybe to Donna?), but there were some twists I didn't foresee coming. More twists than usual and a bromance gone wrong between Mike and Harvey, this season's geared up to be a good one.
Will Harvey finally make managing partner? Will Mike's secret ever come out? We'll see as Season 3 continues.
